India’s veteran batter Virat Kohli has confirmed that the ODI World Cup 2027 will be his last for the country. Kohli said the ultimate goal is to win the ODI showpiece and he is absolutely ready to give his all to take India to glory.

The talisman won his first and only ODI World Cup title in 2011 but he admitted in an interview that he didn’t connect much with triumph as other experienced players he was still a rookie at that time.

In the last ODI series against England, the talismanic batter scored 144 runs in three matches at an average of 48 with a strike rate of 109.09, the best for any batter with more than 100 runs in the series. 

Meanwhile, India qualified for the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup but failed to cross the last hurdle against Australia.

Virat Kohli said in an interview with Jio Star, “For me, it’s the last World Cup I’m going to play for India. And that is my motivation. Like, you know, to leave everything out there. And of course, the goal is absolutely to win the World Cup. And whatever it takes, I’m absolutely ready.”

Kohli admitted that intensity of the ODI World Cup is the highest and highlighted it is not easy to maintain it for 10 games.

“The intensity of a 50-over World Cup is greater than anything. Because now, it’s about 10 games at a T20 level of intensity. But you are playing 2.5 T20 games in one day. And to maintain that intensity for 10 games in a big tournament- the World Cup is a big deal. Also, now it’s in foreign conditions. It takes a lot out of you,” said Kohli (via the aforementioned source).

Kohli will be seen in action in the ODI series against the West Indies.
