Delhi head coach Vijay Dahiya reckons Ayush Badoni sometimes sells himself very cheap amid the ongoing Ranji Trophy. The former Indian wicketkeeper believes Badoni underestimates himself and sometimes his ego is hurt when a bowler bowls a couple of maiden overs against him.
Badoni has been in terrific form as he scored 559 runs in four Ranji Trophy matches of the ongoing season for Delhi at an astonishing average of 111.80, including two double centuries. He is the leading run-getter thus far in the first-class domestic tournament.
“He is meant for bigger things. But he sells himself very cheap. He doesn’t set the standard very high for himself. What I see in him is what I have seen in a lot of people who have made it really big. He has got all those ingredients in him,” said Dahiya (via Hindustan Times).
“His ego starts to come in when somebody bowls a couple of maidens. So he needs to understand and give that respect to the bowler as well. He is there doing his job. That is where he needs to bite the bullet and say, alright, you are better than me for the next half an hour, maybe for a session. And then you score. The only person who can score outside the ground is a scorer,” added Dahiya.
Badoni returned with scores of 7 and 17 in the recent Ranji Trophy match against Services, which ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, Badoni received his maiden ODI call-up for the last two matches against New Zealand earlier in the year after Washington Sundar was ruled out. However, he didn’t make his ODI debut for the team.
Delhi is yet to win a single game in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season after four games. Badoni’s team will next take on Odisha in January next year.
