Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru fast bowler Varun Aaron has advised Delhi Capitals to promote KL Rahul as an opener in the remainder of IPL 2025 season. Rahul has been mostly batting at number four in the ongoing season for Delhi.
While the wicket-keeper bat consistently delivered for the franchise in the first phase of the tournament, he has slightly veered off track in the last few games. Rahul was dismissed by Jaydev Unadkat after scoring only 10 runs against SRH at Hyderabad on Monday.
The flamboyant batter has amassed 381 runs in 10 matches for DC at an average of 47.63 and a strike rate of 142.16 in the ongoing edition of the IPL. Rahul also has an impressive record in the IPL while opening the innings. The right-hander from Bengaluru has accumulated 4260 runs in 100 IPL matches at an average of 48.96 and a strike rate of 137.15 as an opener.
“If you want stability in this batting line-up, send KL Rahul to open. He is going to solve all your problems. If they are going to play around with the openers, might as well put in the most experienced opener as an opener. If you put in Karun, I don’t think it is fair on him because they have really moved him up and down the order quite a lot,” Aaron said on ESPN Cricinfo.
“If you are making radical changes a lot, put in the guys who are most suited to their role, and who have taken the pressure. We all know how much KL Rahul is moved up and down the order in other teams,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rahul scored 77 runs off just 51 balls against Chennai Super Kings while opening the innings in the ongoing season. Rahul has all the experience under his belt and his promotion in the batting order could solve DC’s issues with the bat.
Delhi Capitals will next take on Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Thursday.
