Former Indian batter Suresh Raina has backed David Miller’s selection in Delhi Capitals’ playing XI against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday. Raina said while Sameer Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma have done a decent job for DC, he would still back the Proteas star.
Miller has scored 128 runs in seven innings at an average of 41 and 146.42 in the ongoing IPL 2026. However, Miller was dropped in the last game against Rajasthan Royals.
Suresh Raina said on Star Sports, “Can David Miller play? He looked in good form but was dropped. In the middle order, I feel Ashutosh is doing well. Rizvi has also contributed a couple of important knocks. But still, David Miller is needed there. Against CSK, where Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad might bowl around eight overs of spin, what impact can be made there along with Ashutosh Sharma? Stubbs is already there. But the reason Miller was picked is because his batting can be game-changing in such conditions, and he can make a huge impact there.”
On the other hand, Raina backed CSK to play Akeal Hosein ahead of Prashant Veer. Hosein didn’t play in the last game against Mumbai Indians whereas Veer returned with figures of 0-25 in his two overs. Hosein has scalped six wickets in four games so far in IPL 2026.
The former CSK vice-captain said, “But one change can be made. Instead of Prashant Veer, you can bring in Akeal Hosein on that wicket when Pathu Nissanka and KL Rahul come to open. Then after the powerplay, you can bring in Noor Ahmad. Overton is in good form. Anshul Kamboj, the way he is executing his plans, his line, length, and seam position have already made him one of the top five bowlers. He is already in the Purple Cap leaderboard.”
CSK have won four out of their nine matches in the ongoing season.
