Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath has downvoted the idea of Eoin Morgan taking over as Chennai Super Kings’ head coach for IPL 2027. According to reports, former England World Cup-winning captain is one of the favorites for the job and he has demanded INR 18-20 crores for the role.

Morgan is known for his astute leadership and led England to 2019 ODI World Cup glory. But he doesn’t have any IPL coaching experience thus far.

Meanwhile, the five-time champions recently parted ways with Stephen Fleming, who was associated with the franchise for 18 years.

Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel, “It’s been reported that he is asking for 18 to 20 crores. That’s double of what the current highest-paid coaches, Ponting and Nehra, are earning. And those two have actually shown results. But if it is true that Morgan is demanding this amount of money, it’s not worth it from a CSK perspective.”

“The IPL is not a coach-based tournament. It’s more a captain-based one. A coach can’t turn a normal team into a great team. But a captain can do that in the IPL.”

On the other hand, former CSK batter, Badrinath, reckons the franchise’s batting coach Michael Hussey has turned down the England’s coaching role because he wants to stay with CSK.

“The fact that Hussey turned down the offer from the ECB makes me believe that he likes the CSK job in the IPL. He has a great connection with CSK and experienced tremendous success with the franchise. He has a big family, so he might prefer the CSK role, as the time required in a year will be less than with England. But it’s unknown whether CSK will retain him, though I feel he prefers to be here,” said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).Hussey is also one of the candidates to take over as CSK’s head coach.
