Former Indian batter Subramaniam Badrinath has backed Ishan Kishan’s selection across all formats after success in Duleep Trophy. Kishan led East Zone to glory in the domestic red-ball tournament, scoring a magnum opus knock of 270 runs in the summit clash against South Zone.

The left-hander scored 409 runs in five innings of the tournament at an impressive average of 102.25 and ended the competition as the leading run-getter.

Badrinath said on his YouTube Channel, “It’s a matter of time before he is selected in all formats. He seems to do brilliantly when captaincy is given to him. Leadership seems to positively affect him, as we saw with SRH and now with East Zone. My mind keeps going back to the time when, long back, he was available in a trade and how CSK could have picked him then.”

The former CSK batter admitted that MA Chidambaram track for the final was too flat. Badrinath said curators mostly play it safe by dishing out a featherbed.

“It was too flat. Tilak Varma lost his patience and missed out on a century, which was disappointing. But usually, there’ll at least be turn for the spinners after the third day. However, I feel curators play it safe by dishing out flat tracks,” said Badrinath (via the aforementioned source).

Meanwhile, Kishan has been in prime form in all three forms of the game and has certainly put himself in contention for the red-ball selection. Kishan is currently part of India’s three-match T20I squad for the series against Afghanistan.

Kishan effected a brilliant run-out in the series opener on Sunday with a bullet throw from cow corner to dismiss Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran. However, he dropped a relatively easy catch of Azmatullah Omarzai when he was on 40.
