Sourav Ganguly hails Shubman Gill for batting heroics in ENG vs IND 2025 2nd Test

    July 8, 2025

Former Indian batter Sourav Ganguly has showered praise on Shubman Gill for his batting heroics in the ongoing Test series against England. Gill was the star of the show in the second Test at Edgbaston, returning with scores of 269 and 161.

The Indian skipper aggregated a total of 430 in the second Test, which is the second highest in the red-ball cricket history. Gill batted at the top of his game and showed all the discipline as well as patience in his batting.

Gill has amassed 585 runs in the first two Test matches of the series against England at an incredible average of 146.25.

“Shubman is batting like a dream. See my tweet and you will know. In my three decades of playing and watching cricket in the UK, this is one of the best exhibitions of batting that I have seen. He is simply flawless. There are no chinks in his armour and the English bowlers don’t look like getting him out,” Ganguly told RevSportz.

Gill had 96% control in the first innings of the second Test and looked unperturbed throughout his knock.

“Gill isn’t making a single mistake. He was always pleasing to the eye. And now he is showing the hunger and the temperament. If you see him now, you will be left wondering how can he have an average of less than 50 in Test cricket. ” he added.

On the other hand, Ganguly, who is celebrating his 53rd birthday on Tuesday, compared Akash Deep with Mohammed Shami. Deep bagged 10-187 in the second Test and played a key role in India’s win.

“Very Shami, isn’t he. He was just fantastic, Akash Deep. The way he used the crease, the way he ran in and the amount of swing he got was brilliant. He reminded me of Mohammed Shami at his very best. The delivery to Joe Root, for example, would have got any batter in the world out,” Ganguly said.

The third Test match between India and England will be played at Lord’s, London from 10th July onwards.
