Sourav Ganguly credits fitness for rise of India’s bowling unit

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has given credit to fitness for the rise of India’s bowling unit. The Indian pace battery has taken giant strides in the last few years and all the fast bowlers have sweat hard in the training sessions as well as the gym. The trainers have worked hard with the players and thus the bowlers have been at the top of their game.

The Indian bowlers have been able to turn the tide and as they are fitter, they are able to bowl consistently above 140 kmph. The bowlers are also capable of bowling long spells and they have been right on the money.

A lot of credit also goes to the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, who has played a special role in the rise of the bowling unit. Kohli has backed the pace battery and he has understood that he can achieve success in foreign conditions if his bowlers can bowl at all cylinders. The Indian captain has also motivated his teammates to work hard on their fitness.

On the other hand, India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun has also played a key role in the upliftment of the bowling unit. The Indian pace bowlers have grown in confidence and the positive results are palpable.

“The coaches, fitness trainers and also I think the change in culture. Fitness routines, fitness standards not only the fast bowlers but also among batters that has changed enormously that has made everyone believe that if we are fit, we are strong, we can also bowl fast,” Ganguly told India opener Mayank Agarwal in a chat for BCCI.

India has been at their best and the bowling battery is ticking the right boxes. Ishant Sharma is the most improved bowler as he has bowled with an average of 19.41 in his last 18 Test matches. Jasprit Bumrah has had a dream start to his Test career as he has scalped 68 wickets in 14 Test matches.

Mohammed Shami is also doing a fine job as he has snared 180 wickets in 49 Test matches. On the other hand, bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Navdeep Saini are waiting in the wings for their chances. Thus, India also has a potent bench strength. The Indian bowlers will like to continue their good show going and they will be tested on their tour to Australia later in the year.
