Indian cricket stars Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma have added another feather to their caps after being named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month, respectively, for September. The awards, announced on Tuesday, recognise their outstanding performances in international cricket, which played a crucial role in India’s recent successes.
While Gill was rewarded for his match-winning batting performances against the West Indies, Shafali earned the honour for her impressive contributions to India’s title-winning campaigns at the Asia Cup and Asian Games.
Gill Bags Fifth ICC Monthly Honour
Indian captain Shubman Gill continued his remarkable run in international cricket by claiming the ICC Player of the Month award for the fifth time.
The star batter produced two exceptional innings during the ODI series against the West Indies, helping India secure victories in both matches.
Gill struck a brilliant 110 in the opening encounter before delivering an even more dominant performance in the following game, scoring an unbeaten 223. Both innings came during successful run chases, underlining his ability to perform under pressure.
Reacting to the recognition, Gill expressed his delight and thanked the award panel.
“It feels fantastic to win my fifth ICC Player of the Month award, and I am grateful to the panel for this honour,” Gill said.
“It was immensely satisfying to score those runs and even more special to be part of successful run chases in front of our home fans, whose support always gives us an extra boost.” he added.
Shafali Recognised for Double Title Triumph
Meanwhile, Indian women’s cricket opener Shafali Verma secured her second ICC Player of the Month award following a highly productive September.
The 22-year-old played an important role in India’s successful campaigns at the Asia Cup and Asian Games, delivering consistent performances at the top of the batting order.
During the Asia Cup in the UAE, Shafali accumulated 236 runs across five innings, providing valuable contributions to India’s title-winning effort.
She carried that momentum into the Asian Games in Nagoya, where she scored 188 runs in three matches as India went on to capture the gold medal.
Expressing her happiness, Shafali said the individual recognition made the team’s achievements even more memorable.
“It is an incredible honour to win the ICC Player of the Month award again,” Shafali said.
“It was immensely satisfying to play my part in our victories at the Asia Cup and the Asian Games, and winning this award makes those triumphs even more special.”
The twin honours highlight another successful period for Indian cricket, with Gill and Shafali receiving recognition for their contributions to important team victories.
