Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill rued dropped catches after they suffered a 29-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday.
Mohammed Siraj dropped Finn Allen’s catch in the seventh over and the New Zealander went on to punish GT as he scored a blistering knock of 93 runs off 35 balls. Furthermore, Arshad Khan fluffed Cameron Green’s catch whereas Washington Sundar also dropped Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s catch in the 18th over.
Earlier in the innings, Jason Holder dropped a tough chance to give one more life to Finn Allen. Thus, GT were sloppy in the field and had to pay the price.
Shubman Gill said in the post-match presentation, “Looking at the wicket, 200-210 was par score but we dropped too many catches. Pitch was good, the odd one was stopping but I felt we batted well to get to the score we did. No concerns but our fielding could’ve been a lot better.”
He added, “We set a certain standard and dropping 3 sitters – we didn’t deserve to win this one. Looking at it that way, best to have a game like this now than in the Qualifiers. I think rest and recover for a couple of days, travel back to Ahmedabad, see how the wicket is and then plan accordingly (for the next game).”
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans managed 218-4 in their 20 overs after Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler scored fifties. But the asking rate kept climbing as the GT batters failed to change gears in the middle overs.
GT will next take on CSK at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Thursday.
