Shreyas Iyer should have slapped me: Shashank Singh on PBKS’ skipper angry outburst

    June 9, 2025

Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh admitted the franchise captain Shreyas Iyer should have slapped him after he was run out against Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier of IPL 2025. Singh was run out for two runs after MI captain Hardik Pandya hit the stumps directly from the mid-on position.

With the game still in the balance, Shashank was casual in his running and fell short of his ground, which didn’t impress Shreyas Iyer. After the game, Iyer was seen exchanging some tough words with his Mumbai teammate.

“I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner,” Shashank told Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Shashank Singh scored an impressive knock of 61 runs off just 30 balls in the final but his heroics went in vain as RCB clinched their maiden title.

“I had done my calculation of the last two overs, Bhuvi likes to bowl yorkers so I had planned to get atleast 16-17 runs from him. My calculation was that in the last over our target should be 24 runs in 6 balls. I got only 13 from Bhuvi’s over though, so the final over runs needed was 30,” Singh said while revealing his plan for the last two overs.

Shashank finished the season with 350 runs from 14 innings at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 153.50 with three fifties.

PBKS finished as the runners-up but there were a lot of positives for the Mohali-based franchise as uncapped players such as Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, Nehal Wadhera, and Shashank Singh impressed one and all.
