Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain has received a maiden Test callup for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Jain had recently impressed with both bat and ball in a red-ball game against Sri Lanka A while playing at Galle International Cricket Stadium, Galle, which is the venue for the first Test between the two teams.
The left-handed batter scored a crucial knock of 70 runs while batting at number seven in the second game against the hosts and he also scalped six wickets across two innings.
Jain has featured in 54 first-class matches, taking 188 wickets at an average of 27.3 with his offspin. The southpaw has also amassed 2223 runs at an average of 31.75, scoring 14 half-centuries and two hundreds.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan have been named in the squad but both players are subject to fitness clearance from BCCI’s CoE. Bumrah recently suffered a knee injury and could not play in the third ODI against England.
Ravindra Jadeja, the veteran all-rounder, has also returned to the Test squad. Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar and Devdutt Padikkal have also retained their places in the squad after the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
India had last toured Sri Lanka for a Test series back in 2017 and the visitors had registered a 3-0 win under the captaincy of Virat Kohli.
Galle will host the first Test from August 15, whereas Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club is the venue for the second game beginning August 23.
