Former Indian Test opener Sadagopan Ramesh noted that outgoing chief selector Ajit Agarkar will now be regretting his stance on Rohit’s place in the team. In the recent past, there have been doubts raised on Rohit’s place in the team and it was reported that the selection committee was not backing the veteran. However, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had put his weight behind the Indian opener.
Agarkar has decided not to extend his contract and his last day at the office would be on October 4.
Meanwhile, Rohit was dismissed cheaply after scoring 32 runs in the series opener but he bounced back strongly in the second game. The veteran scored an impressive knock of 101 runs off just 75 balls with the help of 10 fours and six sixes and played a key role in India’s eight-wicket win.
Rohit added 255 runs for the opening stand with skipper Shubman Gill, who went on to score a majestic knock of 233 runs off just 133 balls. After reaching his 35th ODI century, Rohit did an animated jog with high knees, showing how relieved he was after getting to the personal milestone.
Sadagopan Ramesh said on his YouTube Channel, “Ajit Agarkar was reportedly standing on one leg that Rohit shouldn’t be part of the World Cup squad next year, which is why he hasn’t got his contract extended. And Rohit keeps proving that age is just a number. It’s clear that he has the highest degree of fitness, considering he fielded for 50 overs and then batted long enough to score a century. Agarkar will now be regretting his stance on Rohit’s place in the side.”
Ramesh said Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are looking to match each other in the ongoing series.
He concluded, “It’s a pattern now between Rohit and Virat, where if one scores a century, the other follows suit. There is a healthy competition between the two, and both are batting like wounded tigers. It is no surprise that Rohit smashed a century against such an attack on such a flat pitch. It is clear that he is batting with fury.”
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have aggregated 168 and 133 runs in two games, respectively, against the West Indies.
