India’s veteran batter Rohit Sharma is hopeful that India’s men and women team’s recent World Cup wins is just a start to dominance. In the last two years and a bit, India’s men’s team has won two T20 World Cups and a Champions Trophy.

India’s women team were also able to break their World Cup title jinx as they won the ODI World Cup in 2025. Furthermore, India won the Under-19 World Cup title in Zimbabwe earlier in the year under Ayush Mhatre’s captaincy.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav’s team recently won the T20 World Cup 2026 after they bested New Zealand in the final by 96 runs.

“There’s no secret to success, it’s all about hard work. International cricketers – men’s and women’s – they work really, really hard to achieve what they have achieved. Of course, it’s not just the players who perform on the field but there’s so many people behind the scenes as well who put in so much hard work into that success. So a lot of people and personnel to give credit to,” Rohit Sharma said during the launch of the inaugural women’s Mumbai T20 League (via ESPN Cricinfo).

“I feel very, very happy and proud to see what we’ve been seeing for the last couple of years now to come out with flying colours and achieve what we have achieved, not just men’s team but also women’s team to win that World Cup in Mumbai was fantastic to watch. And recently now what the men’s team did to win the T20 World Cup, what they did was phenomenal. And I hope this is just the start, there’s no looking back from here because once you get the momentum – and we often talk about momentum in cricket – both men’s and women’s teams have, all I hope is that we carry this momentum,” Rohit Sharma added.

Meanwhile, the World Cup winning run started under Rohit Sharma’s leadership when his team broke the major ICC trophy hoodoo after winning the T20 title in the Caribbean. Before that, India had last won the major ICC title under MS Dhoni in 2013 when they lifted the Champions Trophy in England.
