Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has opened up about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form after the first Test match against Sri Lanka. Jaiswal returned with scores of 32 and 0 in the opening Test match at Galle. The left-hander was unfortunately dismissed for a duck, whereas he was sent back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers in the second innings.
Ashwin said Jaiswal needs to find form in the second Test match against the Island nation. The former CSK spinner said it was good for India that KL Rahul got back amongst the runs. Rahul returned with scores of 82 and 35 in the opening Test.
“KL Rahul continued his form, he came in to bat after cramps but could not get his hundred, but I think it was fantastic from him. Yashasvi Jaiswal was unlucky in the first innings, and the way he got out, he can relook that, that second-innings dismissal of his. He is a very, very good player, but his recent form has not supported him,” he said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin said clarity of mind is crucial for Jaiswal for the second Test match.
“I think clarity of mind is really important for Yashasvi, and I really hope he can come back to that, concentrate well on his batting, and score a big one. Despite having so much talent, he is going through this phase, anybody can go through this phase, but for Yashasvi, I am waiting for him to score runs,” he added.
Before the Test series, Jaiswal scored a fifty in the warm-up clash against Sri Lanka XI.
The second Test between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Colombo from Sunday onwards.
