Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin praised Lungi Ngidi for bamboozling Nicholas Pooran during LSG vs DC IPL 2026 match. Delhi Capitals registered a six-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow on Wednesday.
Ngidi bowled a slow dipping full-length ball to flummox Pooran after the left-hander scored eight runs off eight deliveries. The South African has mastered this delivery and has used it with guile at the top level. Pooran had no answers and he was left flabbergasted.
“What a ball that was. Look at where the ball is and where his head is, and look at the speed of the ball. He was completely beaten. His head was in Delhi, and the ball was in Mumbai, it is that far. Every team has picked Lungi Ngidi in the IPL. First, CSK picked him, then RCB picked him, what did they see to pick him? The fact is, he spent time with Bravo in CSK, and he must have had an Eureka moment after seeing Bravo that he can bowl a full-length slower ball,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
“When Lungi Ngidi runs in fast, the batters will be expecting a 140 kmph delivery. Because he is bowling it full, and he is rotating at the last moment, and it is coming out loopy. After seeing the trajectory, the batter will feel that it is either a yorker or a full toss, but because of the rotation, the ball will dip. He has beaten Abhishek Sharma, and now Pooran. This is a dangerous skill that he has developed over the last three years,” he continued.
Ngidi returned with impressive figures of 3-27 in 3.4 overs he bowled and played a key role in skittling out LSG at 141. The South African seamer also accounted for Mohsin Khan and compatriot Anrich Nortje.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on Sunday.
