Former Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla questioned Delhi Capitals’ think tank for dropping David Miller in the middle of the season after they registered a thrilling three-wicket win against Punjab Kings at Dharamshala in the ongoing IPL 2026 on Monday.
Miller scored a brilliant knock of 51 runs off 28 balls against PBKS with the help of three fours and four sixes in the run chase of 211. The South African batter has scored 174 runs in eight innings at an average of 43.50 and a strike rate of 155.35 in the ongoing IPL 2026.
Miller was not played in the last game against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been surprisingly dropped in three matches in the ongoing season.
Piyush Chawla said on Star Sports, “Look, that was a very big question mark, how can you leave out a player like David Miller? Last year, this team’s main problem was the middle order. They were not able to finish matches. Only Ashutosh Sharma was there, and he often ended up alone.
“But this time, they started well with good innings, and then in the middle of the season, no one knows what the management was thinking when they showed him the way out. Then he came back again and today he played another explosive innings and scored a half-century. He would have wanted to finish the match, but he took the team to that stage and did a tremendous job for his side,” he added.
On the other hand, the former spinner praised Ashutosh Sharma for playing a crucial cameo of 24 runs off just 10 balls in the run chase. The right-hander smashed two fours and as many sixes in his quickfire knock.
Piyush concluded, “We talk about Ashutosh, and now we have started considering him as an experienced finisher, but he has not spent that much time yet. Still, he has made his mark. And the way Madhav played that innings, it is not easy for any youngster to come in like that and finish the match against a quality bowling attack. It is really commendable.”
With this win, Delhi Capitals was able to stay afloat in the tournament.
