Former Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla showered praise on Bhuvneshwar Kumar for his consistent performances in the ongoing IPL 2026. Kumar bagged impressive figures of 3-5 in three overs he bowled against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Monday.
The veteran pacer dismissed debutant Sahil Parakh with an inswinging yorker. He then accounted for in-form Tristan Stubbs and DC captain Axar Patel.
Kumar has scalped 14 wickets in eight matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 16.85 and an impressive economy rate of 7.61.
Piyush Chawla said on ESPN Cricinfo, “He makes sure whatever games he is playing, he plays with full intensity. I have seen players who come to domestic cricket, do their formality and leave. He is not like that. I have heard a lot of people say about workload management. I am not a big believer in quality practice. I believe in quantity. That’s what Bhuvi also does.”
The former MI leg-spinner also said Kumar is a thinking bowler and shared his experience of leading the fast bowler while playing for Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit.
“He is a thinking cricketer. When I talk to Bhuvi, I just leave everything up to him. I tell him, you tell me what you feel like. If plan A doesn’t work, then we will shift to plan B. When the other fast bowlers are there, I have to work with them. That comes when you have that cricketing brain and you are thinking about the game.”
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has breathed down the neck of the opposition bowlers with his accurate line and length. The veteran pacer has got the new ball to swing both ways and he is making the most of his experience.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Thursday.
