Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Parthiv Patel believes only MS Dhoni can quash the talks on his IPL retirement. Dhoni recently underwent knee surgery and he is all set to lead Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024.
After taking the franchise to their fifth title in the previous season, Dhoni said he wants to play one more season for the fans as he has received great support throughout the country.
Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings from the front since the inception of the tournament and has played a key role in the success of the franchise. The talisman has scored 5082 runs in 250 IPL matches at an impressive average of 38.79. Dhoni scored 104 runs in 16 IPL 2023 matches at an average of 26 and an impressive strike rate of 182.46
“Coming off to play once every 10 months, every time we end up talking about these two months being his (Dhoni) last of cricket…This is a question that only he can answer,” Parthiv told JioCinema.
Patel noted that many renowned players have struggled to get going in the IPL when they haven’t played consistently across the year.
“Over the course of these sixteen IPL seasons, we have seen big names who have not played a lot of domestic or any other format of cricket, end up struggling in the tournament…We have seen it happen with players like Mathew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist,” Parthiv added.
Dhoni had added the finishing touches for CSK in the last edition and he will look to continue the good show for the franchise in the upcoming season.
