Nitish Kumar Reddy credits Pat Cummins and Morne Morkel for his impressive bowling display on opening day at Lord’s

Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy gave credit to his Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins and India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel after he impressed with the ball on the opening day of the third Test against England at Lord’s.

Reddy was given the ball in the 14th over by Indian captain Shubman Gill and he was able to account for both England openers – Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley.

While Duckett was dismissed on an innocuous delivery down the leg side, Crawley received a peach from Reddy. The medium pacer could have dismissed England’s vice-captain, Ollie Pope, for a golden duck if Shubman Gill had taken a tough chance at gully.

Reddy revealed he wanted to improve his bowling after the Australian tour and asked Pat Cummins for inputs during IPL 2025.

Nitish Kumar Reddy said in the post-day press conference, “Yeah, after the Australia tour, I felt like I have to improve my bowling, and about the consistency that’s what I look to improve the most. Pat is my captain, and he’s been brilliant in Australia. I asked him for some tips, and he’s been telling me how things would have been done in Australia. How can I go through in Australia? It was a great experience for me, sharing that with Pat Cummins.”

“I asked Cummins what the difference is between Australia and England, since this is my first tour. He said it’s not going to be a drastic change, but to pay attention to the weather conditions and just play your game. You will get to know obviously (I was going) to play a couple of India A games. He said to try to learn as much as you can,” he continued.

On the other hand, the Indian all-rounder revealed he loves working with bowling Morne Morkel, who is getting the best out of all Indian bowlers.

“Coming into this tour, I’d say we’re also working with Morne Morkel, the bowling coach, and he’s been great. He’s been working with me for the past couple of weeks, and we’re seeing good progress in my bowling. I’m really enjoying working with him.”

Reddy has picked up seven wickets in his young Test career.
