Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has slammed Saim Ayub’s selection in the ongoing third Test match against England. PCB made seven changes to the squad after losing the second Test match by 194 and Ayub was one of the changes the board made.

Ayub was flown in from Caribbean Premier League and Hussain was not impressed after the left-hander could not deliver in the third Test. In the first innings, Ayub was plumbed in front of the wickets by Ollie Robinson after 10 balls, without troubling the scorers.

The left-hander was dismissed for a golden duck in the second innings, with Ollie Robinson once again dismissing him.

“The truth is he shouldn’t be here. He came from the CPL and hasn’t played first-class cricket in some time,” Hussain said during a post-day show on Sky Sports.

“I don’t know who thinks it’s the right thing to fly someone over from foreign conditions, playing a completely different format, and think they’re going to be fine in these conditions against a Dukes ball, against Ollie Robinson and England’s bowling attack,” Hussain asserted.

Hussain said opening the innings is one of the toughest things in English conditions and PCB didn’t help themselves by calling in Ayub.

“It is just a sort of disrespect and disregard for Test match cricket. Test match cricket, as any cricketer will tell you, is the toughest format. Batting at the top of the order in England is the toughest task, and you just feel you can fly someone in from some part of the world and go, Good luck,” he said.

At stumps on day two, Pakistan were 52-2 in the second innings, still trailing England by 268 runs.
