Lucknow Super Giants rookie batter Mukul Choudhary said his focus was on grabbing the opportunity rather than the pressure after he took his team to a thrilling three-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday.
Chasing 182 for the win, LSG were under the cosh at 128-7 but Choudhary single handedly delivered the goods for the team. The 21-year-old scored 54 runs off just 27 balls with the help of two fours and seven sixes. The youngster scored his runs at a strike rate of 200 and got his team over the finishing line.
Mukul Choudhary said in the post-match presentation, “There is pressure, sir. But I think that God has given me this opportunity, so I just believe in my ability. This is a chance where you can become something big or make a name for yourself. So I focus on the opportunity, not the pressure.”
Choudhary revealed his plan was to stay till the end and he was confident that he would win his team the game if he stays unbeaten.
He added, “My plan was simple – I wanted to stay till the end. I trust myself that if I remain not out till the last, I can win the game. I just focus on playing my shots. If the ball comes into my area, I’ll hit it. The rest, whatever happens, happens.”
The youngster revealed he likes playing aggressively and has honed his six-hitting abilities in the recent past.
He concluded, “Since childhood, I’ve always played attacking cricket. I’ve always been someone who hits. Now I understand my game better – if the ball comes into my area, I know I have to hit it.”
LSG will next take on the Gujarat Titans at Lucknow on Sunday.
