Former Indian spinner Murali Kartik slammed Mumbai Indians’ fielding after they suffered a six-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Wednesday. This was MI’s sixth loss after eight matches as their path to the playoffs gets tougher.

After posting a par score of 243 runs on the board, MI could not bring their best with the ball and in the field. Naman Dhir, who is generally a very good fielder, dropped three chances of SRH opener Travis Head, who went on to punish MI. Head eventually went to score a match-winning knock of 76 runs off just 30 balls.

Furthermore, MI didn’t review when Head had edged the ball to wicket-keeper, Ryan Rickelton.

“If you look at the fielding, you dropped Travis Head in the third over, then you dropped him again when Allah Ghazanfar was bowling. When you are getting hit like this, and you keep dropping chances, then no one can save you, not even god. I know that it is not easy, you are even getting hit off good balls, but what is in your hands? It is fielding and catching,” Murali Kartik said on Cricbuzz.

“They were straightforward chances. Naman Dhir, there is no excuse for that, man. So many catches are being dropped this season. There have been some amazing catches, but this was so straightforward. You want wickets in the powerplay, you want to strike an early blow to the opposition, when did you strike a blow? In the 10th over. So, you are not helping yourself,” he added.

On the other hand, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag said MI’s bowling is letting the team down in the ongoing season.

“You have to execute your plans, the plans are not being executed, right? You are not getting wickets when you need it, then how will you stop runs? I think MI’s bowling is letting them down a lot. I feel that MI have everything sorted out, but their execution is not right,” Virender Sehwag said.

Mumbai Indians will next take on arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Saturday.
