Former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma highlighted that Axar Patel batted well but luck was on his side after Delhi Capitals registered a thrilling three-wicket win against Punjab Kings at Dharamshala on Monday in the ongoing IPL 2026.
Patel, who has had a quiet IPL with the bat, scored a fine knock of 56 runs off 30 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes in the run chase of 211. However, Patel had the rub of the green on his side as he was dropped by Suryansh Shedge when he was on 25.
Furthermore, David Miller, who returned to DC’s playing XI, scored 51 runs off just 28 balls.
“When you are not playing well, it does affect your mindset, especially when you have done well before. You are the captain, you have been given the responsibility to lead from the front. The biggest role here is played by luck. Yes, he batted well, but luck was also on his side. You need luck on your side. David Miller also batted brilliantly alongside him,” Mohit Sharma said on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, former Indian batter Rohan Gavaskar said it didn’t seem like Patel was out of form as he batted with confidence.
“The confidence with which he batted, conditions were not that easy to score 56 runs in 30 deliveries, especially when your form is not good. When you score only 44 runs in the season, your confidence is low, but the way he batted, it must be praised. The way he batted today, it did not seem at all that he was out of form. It seemed as if he was playing with flow and rhythm, the entire season,” Rohan Gavaskar said.
With this win, Delhi Capitals were able to stay afloat in the tournament.
