Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has predicted that South Africa can beat India in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup. South Africa and India have been unbeaten in the ongoing T20I showpiece, topping their respective groups.
While India defeated the USA, Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands in Group A, South Africa bested the UAE, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Canada. India and South Africa are drawn with the West Indies and Zimbabwe in Group 1 of the Super 8 stage.
Ali said the Proteas have a potent batting unit and they can chase down anything.
“I think South Africa can come close. Their batting is very good. Batting-wise, they can chase anything,” Ali said on the ‘Beard Before Wicke’ podcast.
Discussing further, the former all-rounder also backed the West Indies to beat India in the Super 8 stage. Ali said the Windies will be comfortable while chasing down a score as they have got the firepower in batting.
“I think it is something the West Indies can do if they chase. Because of the power they have got, they will feel comfortable chasing. India can put whatever on the board. I also think South Africa can. It’s not like they are unbeatable. Their group is a tough group,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Ali picked India, England, Pakistan, and South Africa to qualify for the semifinals of the World Cup.
On the other hand, England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid picked India, South Africa, England and New Zealand or Pakistan to qualify for the last four.
India will take on South Africa in their opening game of the Super 8 stage at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Sunday.
