Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali reckons Hardik Pandya is not more clutch than Australian all-rounder Shane Watson. Pandya recently won the T20 World Cup 2026 and will next lead Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.
The Indian all-rounder picked nine wickets in as many matches of the T20I showpiece and bowled with an economy rate of 8.81. Furthermore, he scored 217 runs in nine matches of the tournament at an average of 27.12 and a strike rate of 160.74.
On the other hand, Watson also delivered consistently for Australia during his playing days.
“I’ll disagree that Hardik is more clutch than Watson. He is clutch, but I’m saying he is not more clutch than Watson. Watson’s a flipping good player,” Moeen Ali said on the ‘Beard Before Wicket’ podcast.
Ali picked Dwyane Bravo and Andre Russell as better T20 all-rounders than Shane Watson.
“It is a tough one. Obviously depends on what you want in your team as well. I am probably going to go Watson. Because after Russell, Bravo, not in that order, Watson was the best all-rounder,” he stated.
On the other hand, England’s leg-spinner Adil Rashid picked Hardik Pandya as a better T20 all-rounder than Shane Watson.
“For me personally, Hardik. Also, his bowling. I think I have seen Hardik bowl a lot more than Watson. He bowls up top, middle, and death, all three phases,” he said.
“I think Hardik can replace Watson in this conversation. He plays one to two years longer, then he’s played more.”
Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on 29th March.
