Ireland’s left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys believes it is important for his team to do their home work and work out a plan against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of the T20I series. Sooryanshi, 15, is known for his aggressive approach and likes to take the attack against the opposition bowlers from the get-go.

The left-hander recently smashed a magnum opus knock of 94 runs off just 29 balls in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka A. He scored the fastest List A half-century, taking just 11 deliveries to get to the personal milestone.

The left-hander hit 10 fours and eight sixes in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game. The youngster scored his runs at a whirlwind strike rate of 324.14 and played a key role in helping India post an above-par score of 377 runs on the board.

Recently, Sooryavanshi scored 776 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026 and finished as the highest run-getter of the tournament.

“Opening the bowling, you’re taking on the best guys in cricket. The expectation [in T20I] is you’re going to get hit for six, so there’s less pressure on the bowler. Sooryavanshi has put his name out there as one of the most explosive guys at the top of the order and has taken some big names by hitting them for six in the IPL. It’s about doing your research and working out a plan for him,” Humphreys said on BBC.

On the other hand, Ireland’s opening batter Ross Adair is looking forward to seeing Sooryavanshi in action.

“One of those guys I’d like to be. He’s no fear, doesn’t care who he is batting against – he just wants to take everyone on, and India have given him the licence to do that. It’s a big occasion for them and for us, so it’s cool to be a part of it,” Adair said.

The first T20I between India and Ireland will be played at Belfast on Friday.
