Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary has predicted that Punjab Kings can create history as they can be the unbeaten champions in IPL 2026. PBKS have won five out of their six games, with one match against KKR ending in no-result because of rain.
The Mohali-based franchise continued their dominant run in IPL 2026 as they registered a comprehensive 54-run win against Lucknow Super Giants at New Chandigarh on Sunday.
PBKS posted a par score of 254 runs on the board after Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly scored majestic knocks of 93 and 87 runs respectively. The left-handed duo added 182 runs off just 80 balls after Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed for a golden duck. In response, LSG could only manage 200-5 in their 20 overs.
PBKS have ticked the right boxes with bat and ball and they have been a force to reckon with in the ongoing season.
“We might see a new record, they can be unbeaten champions. There is no doubt about it. The kind of cricket they are playing, whether it be batting, the spin department, fast bowling, captaincy. The team atmosphere is looking so good, so I don’t think we can assume they might go unbeaten, there is nothing wrong in thinking that. The kind of rhythm they are in, everything is going well for them, and they also have a stable captain. It is good to see because they have struggled for so many years,” Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
On the other hand, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer has led with aplomb and said he tries to get the best out of his players by giving them all the freedom.
“You have got to let them be, when you let them be they perform their best. I do not tell them a lot, Ricky motivates us before a game and then I chip in with some words. The majority of our bowlers are international bowlers; they have been doing well for their respective sides and again, I do not have to tell them much. We do have a few plans against the batters, it is all about execution as long as they do not get complacent,” the PBKS captain said during the post-match presentation.
Punjab Kings will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Saturday.
