Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary has urged Vaibhav Suryavanshi to stay grounded amid all the success he is getting in the ongoing IPL 2026. The youngster scored a stunning knock of 97 runs off just 29 balls with the help of five fours and a dozen sixes.
The left-hander scored his runs at a blistering strike rate of 334.48 as he took SRH bowlers to the cleaners. Vaibhav also broke Chris Gayle’s record of most sixes (59) in an IPL season and now has 65 maximums to his name.
Furthermore, Suryavanshi was just one hit away from breaking Chris Gayle’s record of the fastest century in the IPL but he was dismissed three runs short of his hundred.
Tiwary noted that Suryavanshi is seen taking blessings from former veteran players and he should stay that way to achieve more success in his career.
“The advice I have for him is to be humble about all of the success that he is achieving at such a young age. He has become a star now, but it is very important for him to stay grounded. At times, when you get a lot of things at such a young age, you should be careful not to say anything wrong, and not let your behaviour send any wrong signals,” he said on Cricbuzz.
“As of now, his behavior seems good. He is touching the feet of elders and seeking their blessings and all, so all of that is fine, but he should not go towards the route where ‘Ben Stokes’ is repeated often, we have seen players do that. If he does all these things, then it will be good for him. He is simply born to destroy and make new records,” he added.
On the other hand, former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma backed Suryavanshi’s selection in India’s T20I team.
“To play for India, I think the criteria are quite clear – if you are performing well, you should be selected. I think that is enough, why not? There is now a clear ladder if you are a youngster doing well, it’s the IPL, India A, and then if you do well there also, then only Team India is left. He is already facing Jofra Archer in the nets and smashing all of the premium international bowlers in the IPL,” Mohit Sharma said.
RR will take on GT in the second qualifier on Friday.
