India’s left-arm spinner Manav Suthar will return to play for Warwickshire in the County Championship after the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Suthar has been named in India’s 15-man squad for the Test series against the Islanders.
In two games earlier this season, Suthar picked up 11 wickets, including a fifer for the County team. He now has 147 wickets in 32 first-class matches.
Warwickshire, who won the championship in 2021, are currently placed five points off the top spot in Division One and remain in contention for another title win.
New Zealand batter Will Young will also join Warwickshire.
Speaking on the signings, Warwickshire Performance Director, James Thomas, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome both Will and Manav back to the Bears after both players made a real impact when they were last with the Club.
“We’ve played some good red-ball cricket already this season, and both players will now bring additional quality at a crucial time of the campaign where we are in the mix for the title.
“Will adds experience to our batting line-up, especially with Beau Webster’s time at the Club over for the season, while Manav showed earlier this year that he has the ability to change a game with the ball as well as adding crucial runs.”
Meanwhile, Suthar had impressed on his Test debut against Afghanistan in the one-off Test match. Suthar had returned with impressive figures of 6-33 in 22 overs he bowled in the first innings. The left-arm orthodox spinner bagged 1-29 in the second essay and also scored 28 runs in the first innings. Thus, he was awarded Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Galle from August 15 onwards.
