Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth has questioned Yash Thakur and Suryansh Shedge’s selection for the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. However, Yash Thakur scalped 18 wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2026. Thakur claimed his wickets from just seven games at an impressive average of 9.88 and an economy rate of 6.80 in the domestic tournament.
The fast bowler played a solitary match for Punjab Kings in IPL 2026 and picked up two wickets.
On the other hand, Suryansh Shedge recently made his T20I debut against Ireland but could not impress with both bat and ball.
Srikkanth questioned why players like Rajat Patidar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya are not getting their deserved chances.
Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “What sins have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya done to not find a spot in the squad? From where did Yash Thakur come into the setup? He doesn’t know how to bowl at all. He’s an ordinary bowler and cricketer. Atleast the Mayank Yadav selection makes sense as he has pace and can be looked into as the future. How’s Suryansh Shedge there? What has he done?”
“The same yardsticks have to hold good for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Krunal Pandya, and Rajat Patidar then. They are scared these three will do well and become undroppable, because of which they can’t select their favorites. Krunal Pandya is an intelligent and street-smart cricketer, who’ll definitely do well. You don’t select him and keep backing Tilak Varma forever. Is he so great?”
The 1983 World Cup-winning player also questioned Rinku Singh’s selection and added that the only good selection is that of Prabhsimran Singh.
“Nobody knows how Rinku Singh is back again. The only good selection in this is Prabhsimran Singh. He truly deserves a spot as he has earned it through scoring runs. You selected Prince Yadav now because he was brilliant in the IPL, which is fair,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
