Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth has questioned Shivam Dube’s selection ahead of the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Srikkanth questioned on what basis the selectors are picking Dube in the squad consistently.

The seam-bowling all-rounder could not deliver on the recent UK tour. Dube scored 45 runs in two T20Is against Ireland whereas he scalped three wickets in the two-match series.

Dube then scored 85 runs in five T20I matches against England whereas he snared two wickets in the series.

Srikkanth questioned Dube for his mundane efforts in the field as he hasn’t been able to hold his catches. Dube dropped Harry Brook’s catch in the fifth T20I when he was on three and the England skipper went on to score 95 runs.

Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “What kind of luck does he have? He never gets dropped. Even if there is thunder or lightning, Shivam Dube will always be there. Batting and bowling alone doesn’t make a cricketer. Fielding is a very important aspect in the game today. If you take fielding into account, Dube gets zero. So on what basis does he continue getting picked? There are so many other young players that have done well in the IPL.”

The 1983 World-Cup winning player urged the team management to give 10 consecutive matches to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

“He needs to be given 10 consecutive matches in the playing 11. He shouldn’t be given three-match stretches. If they give him all three matches in this series and tell him to play his game with no fear, he’ll surely win India two matches. You have to just infuse confidence in him. I pray to god that he scores big in this series as I want him to be a permanent fixture in the T20I side and hopefully in ODIs also in the future,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).

Sooryavanshi had returned with scores of 13, 14 and 15 in three T20Is against England.
