Legendary Sir James Anderson has tipped England-India as an exciting series. India has a young leader in Shubman Gill, and the visitors would be without the services of their veteran batters – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who recently announced their retirements from the red-ball version.
On the other hand, England is expected to play aggressively throughout the series under the leadership of Ben Stokes and make the most of their own conditions.
Anderson said India has a potent squad with some exciting players despite the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
“This series is going to be exactly the same as you’d expect. I know India are going through a little bit of change with a new captain (Shubman Gill) and losing (Virat) Kohli and (Rohit) Sharma, but I still think they’ve got a strong squad with some really exciting players,” Anderson told ESPN Cricinfo.
“England obviously are trying to play a certain way. It lends itself to a really exciting series,” he added.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are expected to open the innings whereas Sai Sudharsan is expected to bat at one down. India’s newly appointed captain Shubman Gill can bat at number four for the tourists.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah is going to lead India’s pace attack. Bumrah will be accompanied by Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep.
The opening Test match between India and England will be played at Leeds, Headingley, from June 20 onwards.
Full squad: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc, wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav
