Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill feels Rajasthan Royals took the game away from them in the Powerplay overs after they suffered an eight wicket loss at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Monday. Chasing 210 runs for the win, the home team won with 25 balls to spare after 14-year and 32 days old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed 101 runs off just 38 balls.
The young lad smashed eight fours and 11 sixes in his blistering knock to send shocking waves in the cricketing world. Suryavanshi reached his fifty off just 17 balls and completed his hundred off just 35 balls. He became the youngest to score a century in the IPL history and also scored the fastest hundred in the IPL by an Indian batter and the second fastest overall after Chris Gayle.
RR openers – Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi – tonked 87 runs in the Powerplay overs to put their team in front.
Shubman Gill said after the loss, “They took the game away from us in the powerplay and credit to them for that. There were a couple of things that we could have done better but it’s very easy to sit out and say those things. Some chances came early our way, couldn’t grab those but in hindsight I think there are some areas that we need to work on as a group.”
Gill revealed he didn’t take the field in the second innings due to a back spasm and the physio didn’t want to take any chances.
Gill added, “Felt a little back spasm in my back and we have a game couple of days after this, so the physio didn’t want to take a chance. What happened in the previous match – win or lose – we take one game as it is. The next match is at Ahmedabad, we have had a good run there, so hopefully we’ll be able to continue that.”
The GT captain also showered praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi and said it was his day.
He concluded, “It was his day. His hitting was just tremendous and he made full use of his day.”
Gujarat Titans will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday.
