Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill gave credit to bowlers after they registered an eight-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Wednesday. Gill said restricting the home team to 169 was a good effort from the bowlers.
The pitch had some help for the seamers and Mohammed Siraj was able to make the most of the known conditions, having spent seven seasons with RCB. Siraj struck twice in the Powerplay overs, removing Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal whereas Arshad Khan got the big wicket of Virat Kohli. RCB were left reeling at 42-4 and it was always going to be a herculean task for them to bounce back from there.
Siraj returned with impressive figures of 3-19 in his quota of four overs whereas Sai Kishore bagged 2-22, accounting for Jitesh Sharma and Krunal Pandya. Prasidh Krishna conceded 26 runs in the four overs despite going for 16 runs in the final over.
Thus, GT were able to restrict RCB to 169 and chased down the total with 13 balls to spare after Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan scored 73 and 49 runs respectively.
Shubman Gill said in the post-match presentation, “We have seen on this ground that restricting them to 170 was a good effort. The wicket has something in it sometimes; you can score 250 as well as get early wickets, there was something for the fast bowlers in the first 7-8 overs and we knew if we pick early wickets then we are in the game.”
He added, “You are disappointed but you need to keep coming back, grab the next opportunity. We batted professionally considering the wicket. It is all about adapting to the situation and playing according to that.”
Gujarat Titans will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday.
