IPL 2025: Sanju Samson says it was a chaseable score after loss against PBKS

    May 19, 2025

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson said the target of 220 was chaseable after their 10-run loss against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Sunday. The home team’s openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi added 76 runs for the opening stand in 4.5 overs.

Samson admitted they could not carry on the impetus which was provided by their openers. While Jaiswal scored 50 runs off just 25 balls, Vaibhav scored 40 runs off only 15 balls. However, Samson and Riyan Parag were dismissed cheaply. Dhruv Jurel also scored 53 runs off 31 balls but the rest of the batters could not deliver the goods for the hosts.

Sanju Samson said after the loss, “We started off really well, couldn’t ask for anything more from the openers having scored 90 runs in the powerplay. We couldn’t carry on the momentum we got in the powerplay. It (target) was quite achievable today. The wicket played completely different today. That was a chaseable score with the kind of power-hitters we had. It’s a bit hard to nail it down to one thing, we have to get the job done. A couple of experienced guys should take responsibility and do their job.”

Samson added they need to improve a lot for the next season but they would first look to win their season’s last game against CSK.

Samson concluded, “Definitely a lot of improvements to be done for the upcoming season. We can’t try much, the first priority is to win the game (vs CSK).”

This was RR’s 10th loss of the season as they could not deliver consistently with both bat and ball. The franchise’ chief coach Rahul Dravid said the bowlers were not up to the mark as they conceded 219 runs.

Rajasthan Royals will play their last match of the season against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday.
