IPL 2025: Pat Cummins admits collective failure after loss against Kolkata Knight Riders

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins admitted collective failure with both bat and in the field led to their huge 80-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday. This is Hyderabad’s biggest loss in terms of margin in the IPL.

Cummins said they were decent with the ball but could not grab their opportunities in the field. Nitish Kumar Reddy dropped Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s catch when the right-hander was on 43 but the lapse didn’t prove too costly as the youngster was dismissed soon after completing his second IPL fifty.

KKR was able to change the gears in the final five overs, scoring 78 runs as SRH bowlers could not hit the right areas. Venkatesh Iyer smashed 60 runs off just 29 balls whereas Rinku Singh played a cameo of 17-ball 32.

On the other hand, SRH were bundled out for a paltry score of 120 runs and Cummins feels they need to once again reflect on their aggressive approach if they lose early wickets.

Pat Cummins said after the heavy loss, “Not a great time. I think this was gettable, pretty good wicket. Left too many in the field and then fell well short in the end. We need to be realistic, three games in a row it hasn’t come off for us. We need to maybe look back at whether we could have chosen better options. Our batters are best when they take the game on, but looking back maybe we could have taken different options.”

The Australian admitted they were not up to the mark in the field and it led to their downfall against the reigning champions.

He added, “It was mainly our fielding, overall bowling wasn’t bad. We should have taken a few catches and stopped them a bit earlier.”

On not playing lead spinner Adam Zampa, Cummins said there wasn’t much help for the spinners. He concluded, “It was mainly our fielding, overall bowling wasn’t bad. We should have taken a few catches and stopped them a bit earlier.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday.
