Former Australian batter Simon Katich reckons Rinku Singh has made the finisher role his own in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Australia. The left-hander scored 14-ball 22 to get India over the line in the run-chase of 209 runs.
The southpaw scored another fine knock of 9-ball 31 in the second T20I against Australia to add the finishing touches and helped India post 235 runs on the board.
Singh has scored 128 runs in four T20I innings at a blistering strike rate of 216.95 and he has shown the skills to take up the finisher role for the national team.
Meanwhile, Singh had done a fine job while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. The left-hander has scored 725 runs in 31 IPL matches at an average of 36.25 and a strike rate of 142.16.
Simon Katich said on JioCinema, “He (Rinku) has made it his own, particularly for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season, and now for India. Yes, there will be competition when the more experienced players come back into the team.”
On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a scintillating knock of 53 runs off just 25 balls and gave a blistering start to the team. Former Indian cricketer Abhishek Nayar showered praise on the youngster for his fine knock.
“He (Yashasvi) has been part of the T20 set-up from the last couple of series and has constantly done well for the team. Even in Test cricket, he is someone who is evolving into a future star. So, you expect him to be in the team. It is still a fair distance away with IPL in between. But the way he is playing now, he will surely be a frontrunner for that spot.”
The third T20I between India and Australia will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Tuesday.
