Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has backed Dhruv Jurel to get a promotion while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Jurel has scored 152 runs at an average of 21.71 and a blistering strike rate of 172.73 in 13 IPL matches.
Meanwhile, Jurel was able to grab his opportunity with both hands in the recent Test series against England after KS Bharat could not deliver in the first two Test matches with the bat. Jurel scored 190 runs in four innings at an impressive average of 63.33.
Furthermore, when India was on the mat at 177-7 after England posted 353 runs in the fourth Test at Ranchi, Jurel scored a fine knock of 90 runs and added 76 runs with Kuldeep Yadav, who gave him great support.
Speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “Dhruv Jurel can be that person definitely. The way he has batted this year and the way he batted in the IPL last IPL, he can definitely get a promotion up the order.”
On the other hand, Gavaskar reckons death bowling could be Mumbai Indians’ kryptonite in the upcoming season as Jasprit Bumrah might not get the support from the other end.
Gavaskar said, “Death over bowling. Bumrah is there but maybe from the other side runs will be leaked. So this I think is a weakness in the Mumbai Indians side.”
Bumrah had missed the previous season in the IPL due to a back injury. The gun fast bowler scalped 19 wickets in four Test matches he played against England in a recent series.
Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Gujarat Titans at their home ground of Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on March 24.
