Former Indian fast bowler Dodda Ganesh slammed India after Sri Lanka were able to save the second Test match at Colombo on Thursday. The hosts were skittled out for 290 runs in the first innings and thus India was able to enforce the follow-on, keeping the weather in mind.

However, Sri Lankan batters came up with a rearguard action on the final day as both team’s players decided to shake hands after the hosts posted 429-9 in the second essay. The home team had a lead of only 16 runs at the end of the fourth day and India needed four wickets to wrap up Sri Lankan innings. But Sonal Dinusha continued his rich form, scoring an unbeaten knock of 133 runs.

Ganesh said no excuse can be made for bottling this Test match and India needs to do a lot of soul-searching.

Dodda Ganesh wrote on X, “No excuse for bottling this test, especially after getting them under the mat by the end of the fourth day. A lot of soul-searching to do for India.”

On the other hand, Indian skipper Shubman Gill gave credit to the Sri Lankan batters, who showed all the resistance and kept Indian bowlers at bay.

“I think they played brilliantly this game. In hindsight, you can think, okay, if enforcing the follow-on was a right decision? But keeping the weather and everything in mind we weren’t sure if there’s going to be a full day of game on day five. But you can only talk about these things in hindsight, when you’re in that moment you try to take the best decision as you can, and some of the things then go our way, but that’s totally fine,” he said at the post-match presentation.

India won the two-match Test series by 1-0 as they had won the Galle Test by 165 runs.
