Damien Fleming says Cameron Green not technically efficient enough to bat at no.3

Former Australian fast bowler Damien Fleming reckons Cameron Green is not technically suited to bat at one down in Test cricket. Green, who is returning after a back injury, was backed at number three by Australia’s think tank in the World Test Championship final.

However, the lanky batter returned with scores of 4 and 0 in both innings and failed to create any impact with the bat. Green was caught behind in both innings after he attempted to play with hard hands. The right-hander was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada in both innings. The all-rounder is also not yet fit to bowl in the WTC final.

Fleming said on SEN, “We’ve complicated things here. I don’t like the top 3. Cam Green is not No 3. I’m a fan but where do you fit him in? He’s probably – in this line up – suited to No 6 but Beau Webster is not a superstar, but he’s just so handy in all three facets. Cam Green, watch his technique, he’s not technically efficient enough to bat at top 3 – these are specialist roles.”

“I won’t be surprised if Inglis comes in, in the West Indies but is he going to bat in the top 6 against England? There’s so many questions. We have got to pick openers. Usman might get to the end of the Ashes and I expect him to get runs in the West Indies because it wont be dissimilar to Sri Lanka.”

Meanwhile, Australia is on the verge of losing the WTC final against South Africa as the latter needs 69 runs to win with eight wickets to spare.

Aiden Markram and South African captain Temba Bavuma are batting unbeaten on 102 and 65 respectively. The duo has already added 143 runs for the third wicket alliance to put their team in a commanding position.
