Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar recalled Chris Gayle’s masterpiece knock of 175 runs during IPL 2013. Gayle, who was playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, smashed a brilliant innings against now-defunct Pune Warriors India. 

The left-hander scored 13 fours and 17 maximums in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game. Eventually, RCB posted an above-par score of 263-5 on the board and registered a comprehensive 130-run win. 

The former West Indies batter took all the Pune Warriors India bowlers’ to the cleaners, barring Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Kumar returned with impressive figures of 0-23 in his quota of four overs and was the pick of the bowlers. 

“I bowled two overs at the start. I don’t know how many balls Gayle played and how many Dilshan played. It was swinging a bit at the start. Normally I bowl outside to Gayle, and he leaves it, and it was like that. But he started hitting after my 2 overs were done, and luckily he was out by the time I came back to bowl. Yes, I have dismissed him. But it was his smartness that he would not hit when the ball was swinging and then attack others, and we got away in that,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said in a video on UPT20’s YouTube channel.

On the other hand, Kumar also showered praise on young prodigy batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 776 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026. Kumar admitted Sooryavanshi is one of the toughest batters to bowl to.

“You can say that. If not the toughest, he is at least in the top three to top five, the way he is batting. To earn this kind of reputation at this age, it is a big thing,” he said.

Sooryavanshi is currently playing for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone.
