The Board of Control for Cricket in India has provided an update on Rishabh Pant’s injury after the opening day of the fourth Test match between India and England at Old Trafford. Pant was hit on his right leg while trying to play the reverse sweep against Chris Woakes.
England went for the review but Pant had got a bit of bat before the ball hit him directly on his front leg. Subsequently, Pant was seen wincing in pain and there was swelling as well as a cut on his leg.
Pant was not even in a condition to limp off and he was carted off by the ground’s ambulance. The left-hander was batting unbeaten on 37 at that stage and was stitching a crucial alliance with Sai Sudharsan.
BCCI wrote on their X handle, “Rishabh Pant was hit on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was taken for scans from the stadium. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”
On the other hand, Sai Sudharsan also provided an update on Pant in the post-day press conference.
Sai said, “Oh he was in a lot of pain and he’s now at the hospital taking scans. We’ll know about the update probably soon. If he’s not coming back in this match it’s obviously a blow but the other batters are also ready to do their part.”
Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan top-scored for India on the opening day as he scored 61 off 151 balls. Almost all the Indian batters got off to starts but none of them could convert it into substantial scores.
India ended the day’s play at 264-4 after Ben Stokes decided to bowl first in overcast conditions.
