Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane revealed that Cricket Australia can only explain why they haven’t given a green signal for Cameron Green to bowl in the IPL. Green was surprisingly not given the ball against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.

KKR posted 220 runs on the board on a batting paradise but could not defend the total as their bowling looked toothless. Meanwhile, Green scored 18 runs off 10 balls while batting at number three.

The Australian all-rounder also did not bowl much in the T20 World Cup 2026. Rahane said once Green could start bowling, they would have a better combination.

Rahane said in the post-match presentation, “Ask Cricket Australia. I think when hopefully Green starts to bowl soon, the combination will be slightly different. At the moment, we have to see the balance and who can bowl well for us. Batting-wise, as I said, we batted really well, but finding that balance with the ball is really important. So, hopefully, Green starts to bowl soon, [and] then we can find out whether the combination will be okay.”

Rahane admitted it was challenging for them as their main bowlers are injured but at the same time, it is an opportunity for other bowlers. 

He said, “I think always the first couple of games you don’t get your right combination. It is challenging because our bowlers are injured, but I think there is an opportunity for other players to show up and do really well and make a name for themselves – Kartik, Vaibhav, Muzarabani, Saurabh [Dubey]; you’ve got Umran [Malik] as well, [and] Navdeep Saini. So it is an opportunity for everyone.”

KKR bowlers had a tough outing against MI as all bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than 10.

KKR will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday.
