Indian skipper Shubman Gill said they will always keep believing as long as they have a chance to qualify for the WTC final. India’s chances of making it to the summit clash of the WTC took a heavy blow after the second Test match against Sri Lanka ended in a stalemate.

India had Sri Lanka on the mat as the hosts were leading by 16 runs at the end of the fourth day’s play but had only four wickets in hand in the second innings.

However, Sonal Dinusha once again came up with a brilliant performance, scoring an unbeaten knock of 133 runs off 264 balls. Sri Lanka ended the day’s play at 429-9 before the players decided to shake hands for a draw.

With this draw, India slipped to a PCT of 51.52, and their path to the WTC final has become more challenging.

“Yes, we are going to New Zealand in November, so that’s a good series for us, and then we’ve got a good home series coming. So hopefully if we have a good New Zealand series, as long as we have a chance, we always keep believing, and hopefully we’ll make it to the finals, Gill said while talking in the press conference.

On the other hand, Gill said Manav Suthar is going to be a crucial spinner for them going forward as he does a lot of things correctly in his bowling. Suthar scalped 16 wickets in two Test matches against Sri Lanka at an average of 21.06.

“Everything, how consistent he is and how well the ball, how well he releases the ball and how the ball goes off from his wrist, from his fingers. He’s a very pleasing bowler to see and I think he’s going to be someone who’s going to be very, very crucial for us in the upcoming years, Gill said in the post-match presentation.

India won the two-match Test series by 1-0 as they had won the Galle Test by 165 runs.
