Alex Carey backs Australia’s “world-class” batters to find solutions against Jasprit Bumrah in pink-ball Test

Australia’s wicket-keeper bat Alex Carey has backed world-class Australian batters to find solutions against Jasprit Bumrah in the pink-ball Test match. Bumrah was a thorn in Australia’s flesh in the opening Test of the series at the Optus Stadium, in Perth.

The gun-fast bowler returned with match figures of 8-72 and thus bagged the Player of the Match. India’s stand-in captain claimed 5-30 in the first innings and then scalped three wickets for 42 runs in the second essay.

Australia was bundled out for a paltry score of 104 runs in the first dig and the hosts were skittled out for 238 runs in the second innings to suffer a huge loss of 295 runs

“He’s obviously a fantastic bowler; has been for a number of years. Our batters are world class as well and always find ways to come up with solutions,” Carey told the media.

“We’ve had a look at him now. Hopefully we can combat that first, second spell. Get him bowling a little bit deeper in the innings with an older ball.”

Meanwhile, Travis Head scored an impressive knock of 89 runs in the second innings but none of the other Australian batters could show much resistance.

“We saw Travis sort of counterpunch a bit . I trust our batters, we’ll find a way not only Bumrah. They played a couple of other debutantes who bowled well as well,” Carey said.

On the other hand, India was bowled out for only 36 runs in the pink-ball Test match at Adelaide on the 2020-21 tour. Carey said they are not expecting to bundle out the visitors on the same type of score.

“There are obviously amazing days in cricketing history but we are not going there expecting to do that again. We have a process and a plan that we try to execute and whatever happens, happens. I was not here for that Test match. We are excited. We take a lot of confidence for our record in pink ball cricket. We will hope to succeed and I think our methods will help us bounce back from Perth,” Alex Carey said.

The second Test match between Australia and India, which will be a pink-ball game, will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 6 onwards.
