Adam Gilchrist makes massive statement on MS Dhoni ahead of CSK vs PBKS IPL 2025 match, says he doesn’t need to be there next year

Former Australian wicket-keeper bat Adam Gilchrist reckons it would be better for Chennai Super Kings’ future if their veteran MS Dhoni parts ways with them. CSK could not qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2024, finishing in fifth place after seven wins and as many losses in 14 matches.

As always, it was expected that CSK would bounce back strongly but it hasn’t been the case after they had a poor auction. They have managed only two wins in nine games and they are languishing at the bottom of the points table. Ergo, their hopes of making it to the playoffs are all but over.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is once again leading the franchise after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the rest of the season due to elbow injury. While Dhoni has been terrific behind the stumps, many cricket experts have questioned his batting position as he is batting down the order due to fitness issues.

Dhoni has scored 140 runs in nine matches of the ongoing IPL 2025 at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 142.85.

Gilchrist said Dhoni has nothing to prove to anyone as he has done it all and he should call time on his glorious career.

“He has nothing more to prove to anyone in the game, he has achieved it all. He will know what he wants to do, but I am saying for the future, it’s going to cost me this, I know, but perhaps he does not need to be there next year. I love you, MS. You are a champion and an icon,” Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction.

CSK will host PBKS at Chennai on Wednesday.
