Indian opener Abhishek Sharma revealed what his mentor Yuvraj Singh told him after the second T20I against Afghanistan. Sharma had scored a stunning knock of 82 runs off just 32 balls in the series opener and backed it with another impressive cameo of 39 runs off just 19 balls in the second game.

Singh, who has got the best out of Abhishek, told his mentee not to go hard at every delivery he faces and look to rotate the strike when the ball is not in the slot.

After receiving the valuable advice from his mentor, Abhishek scored 108 runs off just 34 balls, including nine fours and 11 sixes in third T20I on Thursday. The southpaw also reached his hundred off just 30 balls, becoming the fastest batter from a Test-playing nation to reach the personal milestone.

India posted 100 runs in the Powerplay overs, with Abhishek scoring 76 runs to do the lion’s share of the scoring.

“And in the last match, I only got a text from him that I shouldn’t be forcing all the balls. Specifically in these conditions, if I just take one or two singles in between, it’s not in my you know, the slot. I can take a single as well,” Abhishek said while talking to the broadcasters.

“But obviously, sir always wants me to play long, and I always have it in my mind that if I give the team such a start, obviously, when we are on the winning side, that is always in my mind,” he added.

Abhishek scored 229 runs in three games of the series at an average of 76.33 and a blistering strike rate of 269.71. Thus, the left-hander was awarded Player of the Series.
