Former Indian batter Abhinav Mukund lavished praise on Rohit Sharma despite India’s 27-run loss against England at Lord’s on Sunday. It was earlier reported that Rohit would play his final ODI game at Lord’s but he answered the critics in style.
Rohit scored a magnificent knock of 138 runs off 110 balls in the third ODI at the iconic venue on Sunday as he became the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s. However, his efforts went in vain as India could not chase down a gargantuan total of 388 runs and fell short by 27 runs in the end.
The veteran batter scored 17 fours and five sixes in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game. Thus, Rohit answered a lot of questions, which were hanging on his future.
Abhinav Mukund said on Cricinfo, “I think this is what Rohit Sharma prides himself on and that’s why he will go down in our game as one of the greats that’s played this sport. And under pressure, a lot of people thrive and pressure brings out the best. I think it was a statement that came at a time when there were so many rumors circulating.
“He scored 138 off 110. Something again, a lot of people were questioning whether he can bat 110 balls, which he did. So, so many answers came out of that knock and so many questions being laid to rest least for the moment.”
The former Tamil Nadu player reckons questions will keep coming unless there is clarity on Rohit Sharma’s future.
He concluded, “This question will keep coming unless there is clarity given by someone from the management or someone even from Rohit Sharma saying I will continue to play till 2027 or I won’t. The issue will not rest until there is proper clarity and it will be sealed and stamped with an envelope.”
Rohit will be next seen in the ODI series against the West Indies in September.
