Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra questioned Lucknow Super Giants’ think tank after they suffered a Super Over loss against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Sunday. Chopra expressed his surprise after LSG decided to send out-of-form Nicholas Pooran in the Super Over.
Pooran was dismissed for a duck by his compatriot Sunil Narine when he went for a slog sweep in the Super Over. In the regular game, Pooran was dismissed after scoring nine runs off 12 balls by Varun Chakravarthy.
The southpaw has scored 82 runs in eight matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 10.25 and a strike rate of 81.18 and thus has failed to deliver the goods in the middle order for LSG.
“Lucknow Super Giants, please tell me what you were thinking. We knew Sunil Narine would come. If Sunil Narine was going to come, who was the best player you had who could have hit the most sixes and sent spin into the stands, and who has form? Nicholas Pooran’s name doesn’t come in any of those things,” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“They sent Nicholas Pooran and put him on strike as well. Nicholas Pooran has played three Super Overs in the IPL and has scored zero in all three. He hasn’t scored a single run. He got out for zero here as well,” he added.
The renowned commentator recalled that Pooran has had a poor record against Sunil Narine in the Super Over.
“He has played three Super Overs against Sunil Narine, and his grand total is one. He got out for zero twice. Sunil Narine has bowled one Super Over maiden in his career, and Nicholas Pooran was in front of him. Forget the history, what about the current form? He hasn’t checked in yet. He didn’t score runs in this match as well. Please tell me from what perspective you sent Nicholas Pooran,” he elaborated.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 4th May.
